I was supposed to meet my friend Matt Jordan tonight at Blue Jean Blues. They have a Jazz/Blues Jam session every Monday night and he likes to jam there when he is in town. I like to stop by to see if any new Talent is there. I met Steve Holt, Randy Singer and Matt Jordan by just stopping by like that. But we did not lock in a time really.
I got there about 8:00PM and went in and said hello to piano player who is there most Mondays. There was virtually no one there so I took a walk around. NE 33rd St over by A1A is such a nice little area. There is slanted parking in the middle of the street on both sides, separated by a kind of grass island. At minimum in that one block you have Blue Jean Blues, 33rd and Dine French Cafe, The Dive Bar, Fish Tales, 33rd Street Wine Bar and Pepe's by the Sea, and that is just the entertainment and eating places; there are several more shops there and all of them are very nice.
I met Matt over a month ago at Blue Jean Blues in Fort Lauderdale. He was sitting in on a Jazz/Blues Jam that is normally run by Anthony Corrado each Monday Night. If you want some hot, happening Jazz Jamming, you got to go to Blue Jean Blues on Mondays. They get going about 8PM but get in gear about 10PM. People just keep showing up - another sax player, another guitar, trade out the drummer and it goes on. Good improvisation and great music.
